    College Of Nursing
A challenging profession, nursing is dedicated to the service of humanity. The college trains and prepares skillful nurses with a healing touch. The ability to understand and soothe are as important to a nurse's career as expertise in medical techniques and care. The teaching methods reflect this with interactivity and a stress on communicating with peers and faculty through discussions, symposia, seminars, panel discussions and debates. The sessions are made lively using multimedia projectors and other media to explain theory. Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) programs give students every opportunity to listen to experts and upgrade their knowledge.
The College of Nursing has a dedicated and understanding faculty team led by a highly qualified and experienced head. The undergraduate and postgraduate students have separate faculty to give them individual attention. The postgraduate faculty members include experts in all the specializations. This motivated team continually keeps themselves abreast with conferences and journals.

    Curriculum

The dynamic syllabus is reviewed biannually by a board of studies and ratified by the university's Academic Council and Indian Nursing Council. Since 2005 the curriculum has followed the Revised Indian Nursing Syllabus, which has the latest inputs. This ensures that students get a balance of sessions and activities that include social work for all-round development. The hospital gives hands on training while regular field visits keep students on their feet. The undergraduate program provides an understanding of the health sciences with a strong foundation in the basic sciences. The syllabus is structured to teach students english, computer science, management, education, research and biostatistics. The postgraduate program gives additional skills in administrative and management areas, while allowing students to specialize in medical, surgical, community health, paediatric, obstetrics and gynaecology, and psychiatric nursing.

    Recognition

The college has been accredited by NAAC (2006 - 2011) and was graded B+, an important milestone in offering quality education. It is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), which periodically inspects the college teaching facilities that are provided to students. The college has obtained permanent recognition from The Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also recognized the college, an important achievement that paves the way for research funding.

    Nursing alliances

Besides training at SRM University's multi-specialty hospital, students can also intern at a number of allied hospitals including Vijaya Health Center at Vadapalani, Kanchi Kamakotti Child Trust Hospital at Nungambakkam, Institute of Mental Health at Kilpauk, Railway Hospital at Perambur, Chrompet General Hospital, corporation health posts at Shenoy Nagar and Ayanavaram, Prem's Eye Clinic at Saidapet, KKR ENT Hospital at Poonthamalli, and M. College of Physiotherapy

  • The ability to move is as vital as life. No one knows this better than those specially trained by the SRM College of Physiotherapy. With an active involvement in the community, your skill will be called upon to enhance, study or even rehabilitate the movement of others.
The College of Physiotherapy has an experienced faculty team that specializes in orthopaedics, sports physiotherapy, neurology, paediatric neurology, biomechanics, cardiorespiratory, hand rehabilitation, community rehabilitaion, and obstetrics and gynaecology. Emphasis on interactive learning ensures that every student gains an interest in the science of physical movement and participates wholeheartedly in the theoretical and clinical sessions.

    Teaching methodology

The sessions themselves will involve a balance of clinical training, bedside clinics, clinical meetings, journal clubs, clinical case studies and project work, as well as active community-based rehabilitation. Students will also find exposure through guest lectures, panel discussions, symposia, seminars and workshops for hands on training throughout the year. The Continuing Physiotherapy Education (CPE) Program is specifically designed to arm postgraduates and CRRIs with advanced physiotherapy knowledge, while at the same time reminding them of the basics. Students are kept constantly on their toes through guest lectures by international faculty and regular workshops and seminars.
All-round development is the mantra. Besides coursework, clinical trials and serving the people, the Physiotherapy College takes pride in the co-curricular and extra-curricular achievements of the students. With leisure and group activities, they never feel the burden of the curriculum. The college also conducts yoga classes to help students relax body and mind.

    College of Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is an area of medicine that steps beyond the 'prevention and cure' mantra to the maximal independence of the individual. It focuses on recuperation, giving confidence to people whose disability may be caused by a stroke, a mental illness, a physical and mental weariness because of cardiac or other illnesses or even a hereditary deficiency.
Occupational therapists must break through their patient's barriers and create a pathway for that person to return to normal life, at home and in the workplace. The therapist may design customized treatment programs or design special equipment that allows the disabled person to adapt to his disability.
Occupational therapy (OT) is a comparatively recent science, which has grown in popularity in the west. The demand for specialists is very high as people become more aware of the possibilities of science and how it can make a better way of life. As a student of OT you'll need to develop clinical skills and develop a flair for one-to-one communication. Towards this, the college has well-equipped clinics and learning aids for undergraduates and state of the art research facilities for postgraduate students.

    International recognition

The All-India Occupational Therapists Association (AIOTA) as well as World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) recognize SRM's occupational therapy program. These recognitions give a distinct advantage of being accepted at par in the world of medicine, which allows students to seek higher studies or employment abroad.
The college has been accredited by National Accreditation Assessment Committee (NAAC)
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also ratified the course, which is vital for pursuing research projects
The undergraduate course is recognized by the Academic Council of Occupational Therapy (ACOT)
The undergraduate course is also validated individually by these recognized international boards:

    American Occupational Therapist Association
Council of Occupational Therapy Registration Board, Australia and New Zealand
    Health Professions Council, UK
Department of Health and Children, Ireland
    Norway Board of Occupational Therapists
